GAZPROM CHOOSES QUALITY

One of the most important criteria in the process of regular deliveries of natural gas via gas pipelines to customer is reliability of gas-pumping equipment as well as of gas turbine engines, which serve as drives for gas compressor packages. Breach of reliability draws violation of treaty commitments assumed by Gazprom OJSC both to the population of our country and to strategic partners of Russian Federation. However it is no secret that stationary gas turbines of Russian production that are being currently exploited have become obsolete. At the same time the construction of new high-performance and trusted stationary gas turbines is a problem for Russian manufacturers today. This circumstance has caused the attraction of products manufactured by companies widely recognized «in the sky» to industrial «ground» engines market. Aviadvigatel OJSC together with Perm Engine Company OJSC is being one of such key strategic partners of Gazprom OJSC for more than 15 years.

During the collaboration between Gazprom OJSC and Aviadvigatel OJSC in the area of construction of gas-turbine equipment for industrial purposes, within Ural-Gazprom program, for the compressor stations of Gazprom gas producing and transportation enterprises there have been delivered about 250 gas turbines that serve as drives for natural gas pumps. Owing to the huge scientific and industrial potential of the enterprise there have been developed and introduced in the shortest terms a whole series of gas turbines on the basis of gasgenerator from the aircraft engine PS-90A. This series has included gas turbines for gas transportation with almost all types of power. The comparison with gas turbines produced by other domestic manufacturers shows that there are perm conversion gas turbines which have the highest efficiency for these days. It is important advantage under conditions of hydrocarbons rise in price and toughening of environmental requirements.
One should mention that perm specialists take conscientiously and responsible the finishing of supplied equipment. In close cooperation with its partners involved in gas compressor packages construction Aviadvigatel OJSC analyses each appeared failure and also develops and implements in the shortest terms the effective measures to prevent such failures.
The rise in quality and in reliability of newly delivered and being completed gas turbines can be clear proved by dynamics of mean time to failure running time. This is a keyword parameter for evaluating of gas turbine reliability. So during seven years from 2003 till 2009 the mean time to failure running time has been gradually increased from 6 700 to 30 000 hours for GTU-12P and from 3 000 to 35 000 hours and from 5 000 to 13 000 hours for GTU-10P and GTU-16P accordingly.
One should pay attention that Aviadvigatel OJSC and Perm Engine Company OJSC employers show themselves during commissioning as exceptionally responsible and competent specialists and they use creative solutions in emergency cases. Their close collaboration with Orgenergogaz AOJSC and Sistema-Servis SPF CJSC helps to solve in the shortest terms tasks given for a commissioning team.
Gas turbines rated at 12, 16 and 25 MW each are designed to drive gas turbine generating sets to provide industrial and home consumers with electrical power.
Gas turbines are based on PS-90A aircraft engine - the only 4th generation civil aviation engine in Russia that has got an international certificate.
Perm-made power gensets can play a special part in construction of new facilities and reconstruction of existing public boiler houses, state district power plants, CHP plants, and municipal facilities as part of gas turbine-driven CHP plants.
The factory provides manufacture, testing, installation supervision, pre-commissioning and customer's personnel training, turn-key construction, and maintenance of the facility over its full life cycle.

Development of own generating sources and strengthening of Gazprom power basis were caused by the necessity to provide required reliability of power supply for production facilities and also to reduce costs for construction of power supply network facilities and for power purchase. The 90-s of the XX century demanded to renew Gazprom's stock of power plants. At that time the stock consisted mainly of PAES gensets with AI-20 engines of Ukraine manufacture.
As a result of collaboration Aviadvigatel OJSC created series of power gas turbines with power range of 2.5...12 MW (GTU-2.5P, GTU-4P, GTU-6P, GTU-12P) and packaged gensets (GTES) on their basis.
In the assembly shop of Perm Engine CompanyGTU-2.5P gensets with D-30EU-1 engine designed by Aviadvigatel OJSC has become the first power gas turbine constructed within the frames of cooperation between Gazprom OJSC, Aviadvigatel OJSC and Tyumentransgas Ltd (today Gazprom transgaz Yugorsk Ltd). Today the high-time GTU-2.5P gas turbine has running time of more than 67 thousand hours.
Since 1994 there has been delivered 135 units of GTU-2.5P on the gas production and transportation facilities (102 units for modernized PAES-2500M and 33 units for new power plants EGES Ural-2500). Their total running time accounts more than 2.6 mln hours.
The structures of GTES-4, EGES-4 also include GTU-4Ps in operation. Auxiliary power plants with six EGES Ural-6000 power generating modules are prepared for commissioning. Power GTU-12Ps are planed to be used in the structure of EGES-12S power generating modules.
At the present moment power gas turbines developed by Aviadvigatel OJSC have the highest running time being in the structure of auxiliary power plants that work in the base mode.
There has been acquired a considerable experience of operating of gas turbines and packaged power plants made by Aviadvigatel OJSC including operating of them in Extreme North conditions. It testifies to that these gensets have good dynamics of load rise and rejection, and their container type allows to exploit gensets under extreme low temperature (up to -60°C). At the same time one should go on to increase the reliability of components and of efficiency.
Results of operating process and their analyses are used by Aviadvigatel OJSC in great work for improvement of gas turbines and GT gensets reliability. New engineering solutionare continuously introduced. As a result of the fulfilled work the reliability rates has grown up considerably in comparison with the first years of GTU-2.5P's operation including mean time to failure running time and life time rates. Besides the new control system for gas turbine has been employed.
Cooperation of Gazprom OJSC with Perm enterprises - Aviadvigatel OJSC, Perm Engine Company OJSC, NPO Iskra OJSC, Iskra-Avigaz CJSC and others - in the area of construction of power generating sources is very efficient. Considering existing experience there is no doubt that all works of Aviadvigatel OJSC will be successfully realized within the frames of Gazprom program for implementation and construction of power plants and installations. It will make possible for Gazprom power engineering specialists to fulfill their main goal - to provide reliable power supply for industrial and social properties of society.
