PS-90A-76 aero-engine provides for the IL-76 silence

The IL-76TD-90VD aircraft with Perm PS-90A-76 aero-engines meet all international noise standards. At the beginning of this year the representatives of Ilyushin Airframe Company were granted a proper certificate in the C.I.S Aviation Committee.

Prior to the IL-76TD-90VD aircraft modification the IL-76 aircraft powered by the D-30KP-2 engines met the requirements of ICAO Stage 2 only and "did not get" about 25 EPN dB to the full amount of Stage 4 as estimated by experts.

During the period from August to October 2005 the Institute of Flight Testing named after Zhukovsky conducted the tests of the first IL-76TD-90VD transport aircraft belonged to "Volga-Dnepr" Airline. The test results have shown that the aircraft with the PS-90A-76 engines equipped with the production system of noise attenuation meets the requirements of AP-36 Aviation Regulations and ICAO Stage 4, Supplement 16 requirements for field noise. This allows the aircraft to fly worldwide without any restrictions.

The results of the flight tests have totally validated Aviadvigatel specialists' calculations. During summer this year the PS-90A engine with a new updated system of noise attenuation will undergo tests at an outdoor test stand. Based on the predictions the expected noise margin compared to ICAO Stage 4 requirements will be about
10 EPN dB.

The PS-90A-76 engine is the modification of the PS-90A aero-engine, which is designed to replace the obsolete D-30KP-2 engines on IL-76 aircraft, as well as to be installed on a new models of the aircraft: the IL-76TD-90VD, IL-76MF, IL-76MD-90.

The PS-90A-76 certified in the year of 2003 has the maximum thrust of 16 ton thus significantly expanding the operation environment of the aircraft of IL-76 type and improving carriages efficiency. In particular the fuel consumption becomes 17-19% lower compared to the D-30KP-2. A fight range will be 800-1000 kilometers longer. Thanks to the Perm engines the aircraft commercial payload also increases (up to 60 tons).

At present it is the only engine in Russia, which is operated on-condition. The engine has no limits for the MTBO and assigned life.
