First Flight of IL-76MD-90 Aircraft
On December 27, 2005 the first flight of the updated IL-76MD-90 aircraft powered by the PS-90A-76 aero-engines was successfully completed.
The flight, which lasted for 22 minutes, was performed at the Flight Test Aerodrome of Voronezh Airframe Company. There were no remarks to the PS-90A-76 as noted Perm Engine Company specialists presented at the aerodrome.
In the first quarter of 2006 the state official tests of the aircraft will be continued.
On January 17 this year the Commander-in-Chief of Air Forces of Russia, the Army General, Mr. Vladimir Mikhailov, confirmed in his interview to "Interfax-AVN" Agency the readiness of the Russian Air Forces to put 12 IL-76MD-90 aircraft "on-wing". It is worth noting that for the first time Mr. Mikhailov said about this at MAKS' 2005 Air Show in Zhukovsky, when the first PS-90A-76 engine was handed over to the Ministry of Defense of Russia.
