The modernization of the Il-76MD aircraft is performed by Voronezh Aircraft Building company (VASO) as ordered by the Air Forces of the RF Ministry of Defense.
The PS-90A-76 engine developed based on the PS-90A aero-engine was certified and passed the State Official Tests in the year of 2003.The PS-90A-76 engine allows the Ilyushin's aircraft be in compliance with the advanced ICAO Stage 4 noise standards. The great interest to the PS-90A-76 engines is paid by the airlines of Russia, India, Azerbaijan and other countries.
The PS-90A-76 has the maximum thrust of 16 ton thus significantly expanding the conditions of the aircraft of IL-type operation and improving the carriage efficiency. In particular, if comparing with the D-30KP-2 engine, the PS-90A-76 has the fuel flow reduced by 17-19%. So a flight range will become 800-1000 kilometers longer. The PS-90A-76 allows increasing the aircraft payload up to 50 ton and significantly lowering the limits to a runway length and start-up altitude.
