10 engines will be assembled at Perm Motors for new Russian Il-96-400 T cargo-type plane
On June 14, 2005 at Le Bourget-2005 air show Ilyushin Finance Co. (IFC) and Volga-Dnepr airline signed a financial leasing agreement for two IL-96-400T airplanes. According to this contract during the next 2006-2007 years Perm Motors Group is to supply 10 PS-90A1 engines.
Mr. Alexander Rubtsov, IFC General Director, and Mr. Alexander Isaikin, the President of Volga-Dnepr Group signed the contract. The contract is estimated at about 120 million dollar. Next week in Moscow IFC is planning to sign another financial leasing contract for two Il-96-400 planes with Atlant -Soyuz airline.
Il-96-400T is a heavy cargo type plane. It is a cargo modification of long-range IL-96-300 plane. The plane is assembled at Voronezh Plane Building Company (VPBC). It will be equipped with PS-90A1 engine with 17.40 tons maximum takeoff thrust. PS-90A1 engine is a modification of serial PS-90A engine. Earlier IL-96-400T plane production was planned under IL-96M/T trademark and with Pratt & Whitney engines.
The necessary additional certification work for PS-90A1 engine will be completed during this year. IL-96-400T plane certification is planed for the next year.
As Alexander Rubtsov says, today PS-90A engine is one of the most advanced engines in Russia. "We hope that new PS-90A1 engine with increased thrust will bring IL-96-400T program back to life", said Mr. Rubtsov as he was signing the contract.
Yuri Ostrovsky, IFC Deputy General Director/Technical Director thinks that for such a heavy plane as IL-96-400T with increased maximum takeoff weight in comparison with Il-96-300, PS-90A1 is an optimal engine in terms of necessary takeoff thrust.
