Large Russian Airlines Acquire Aircraft Equipped with PS-90A-Family Engines

Early in October two Airlines - Red Wings (the former "Airlines 400") and Volga-Dnepr - purchased aircraft equipped with the PS-90A-family engines. Ilyushin Finance Co. has provided Tu-204-100 aircraft to Red Wings for 15-year financial leasing. The IL-76TD-90VD aircraft is the second aircraft acquired by Volga-Dnepr.

Both the aircraft are equipped with different PS-90A engine models and may flyover the countries of Europe, because such aircraft meet ICAO noise and emission requirements.

For the Airlines these aircraft attribute to close cooperation with the Russian aircraft industry. Thus, Volga-Dnepr is planning to buy three more IL-76TD-90VD aircraft for its fleet by the year of 2010.

Red Wings and Ilyushin Finance Co. signed a Contract for the delivery of 5 TU-204 aircraft. It will be a new modified model of the aircraft, which will be equipped with the PS-90A2 engines. The contract value is about 170 million US dollars.

In August 2007, at MAKS-2007 Moscow Aero Show, Red Wings signed a Contract for 6 Tu-204 airliner. So, by the year of 2010 the Airline will become the largest customer of the Russian Tu-204 aircraft with the PS-90A engines.

PS-90A aero-engine is a turbofan engine, which is recognized as one of the greatest achievements of the Russian aviation industry in the 90s of XX century. The engine contributes to better fuel efficiency of new-generation aircraft and makes them meeting the world environment standards.

PS-90A engine has become the first Russian aero-engine, which operated eight thousand flight hours without removal from wing. The high time engine accumulated
9 307 flight hours in the IL-96-300 of Aeroflot with no repair made.

PS-90A2 aero-engine is a new modified model of the PS-90A engine, which has performance up to the world standard. Some components, parts and systems of the engine are replaced with similar components produced in France, Germany, Sweden and Switzerland.

At present most of the third engine hardware has been manufactured to support the engine 150-hour block certification test.
