PS-90A2 Flight Tests

PS-90A2 a new domestic aircraft engine developed by OJSC "Aviadvigatel" was first flight tested on October 17 in Ulyanovsk. PS-90A2 engine is tested as a primary power plant on Òó-204-100Â test bed (registration ¹ 64048).

The engine was delivered to Ulyanovsk in mid September 2009. On September 22 it was re-preserved and first started. Then the engine was subjected to strain gauge tests of fan blades and LPC booster second stage blades. PS-90A2 successfully passed the wind tunnel gas dynamic stability tests on the aircraft at artificially forced side and tail wind.

During the second flight on October 18 the program of engine starts with the use of basic automatic controls and standby automatic controls was tested. Both flights were accomplished under normal conditions with no comments on the engine operation from the crew.

The flight test program envisages 26 flights of Tu-204-100B. All flights are performed by the crew from Zhukovsky flight test and development base. As part of the crew a specialist from OJSC "Aviadvigatel" monitors the engine operation with the use of the ASK-90 system. There is also a maintenance team from OJSC "Perm Engine Company" in Ulyanovsk to maintain the engines on Tu-204-100B.

It is anticipated that the certification of PS-90A2 will be completed at the end of the year 2009.
